file shredder
- computing A software program designed to overwrite the contents of a data file to prevent recovery of the file contents. In addition, File Shredder software may also be used to overwrite the unused sections of a hard drive (freespace) to erase previously deleted files. The number of overwrites as well as the pattern of data used in the overwrite function vary from program to program.
